This recipe works well for repairing concrete infrastructures such as bridges, girders, culverts, dams, marine structures, parking garages, treatment plants, and others.
The uniqueness of this method is best demonstrated in the repair of structures where the existing reinforcement can be exposed without incurring any damage. In comparison, other systems can induce vibration and further impact damage to the structure. Hydrodemolition has been demonstrated and validated as the best performing surface preparation for bonding of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) to an existing concrete substrate. The hydrodemolition process creates a rough, irregular concrete surface, eliminates any micro-cracks, and exposes the existing rebar. This creates an ideal surface to mechanically bond the specified preservation material.
When compared to conventional concrete or other traditional repair materials, Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is in its own class of advanced cementitious material due to its higher compressive strength, tensile ductility, bond development, and enhanced durability performance; especially when applied on a concrete substrate that was prepared by hydrodemolition. UHPC can be field cast, poured, overlayed, or shotcreted to strengthen and upgrade various infrastructures. Due to its excellent material properties, UHPC can be used to enhance and rehabilitate concrete infrastructures while extending their service life and greatly reducing future maintenance cost.
